Best stock trading account?
marycotter5678 asked:
I have some index funds with vanguard but now want to invest in some individual stocks. vanguard charges me $25 per trade. Are there better companies out there? I need something cheap that I can do myself, online.

I love Scottrade. Have been using it for more than 5 years. They are a good choice for someone who is looking for-
1. Simplicity of the website.
2. Low-cost stock trade.
3. Local offices if need an in-person help.
4. Consistent and great customer service.
5. Good Range of basic services - stocks, bonds, mutual funds, options etc.
They are not a good choice if you are looking for
1. High tech portfolio analysis tools.
2. Pretty website.
3. Extreme ease of use of website if you are a computer novice.

I have E*trade and TDAmeritrade. Etrade is slightly cheaper and gives you access to FAR greater investment products(futures, soverign debt/currency funds, option products, equity on foreign exchanges etc.). Etrade also has fantastic customer service. Tdameritrade is just okay with customer service and their website is fairly outdated.
However, if youre looking to simply buy only domestic stocks online, it’s your choice, each will suffice. Each charge about $20(round trip).

Zecco gives you 10 free trades per month (this only applies when you have $2500 in your account). Then it’s $4.50 per trade after that. I’m with Zecco.
It also has ZeccoShare. It’s like the Facebook of the stock trading community. You can see other members’ portfolios and their performance and share trading ideas and see what stocks they are buying or selling.
