Best online stock trading website for small investors?

mesman21 asked:

I am new to stock trading and want to start online. I have found numerous possible websites (E-Trade, Scott Trade, Ameritrade, etc.) but am having a difficult time sorting through all the small print to find the one that is right for me. I only plan on devoting a relatively small amount of money to this endeavor (around $10k), and don’t plan on doing a large volume of trades (maybe 10 every quarter). Does anyone have any suggestions on which is the right company for me? Thanks!

It depends on whether or not you will be researching and placing trades or if you will need advise. If you will be making your own trades without help look for the lowest cost with SIPC protection.

If you want help then either go to a financial advisor, or use a full services site like Schwab, etc.

You first has to sign up for an online broker. I like scottrade.com.

No matter how much or how little you sell trades only cost 7 bucks.

If you use me as a referall you will get 7 free trades!
